Emesis castigata
Common(?) up to 1050 m. Attracted to bait.
Similar species: Similar to E. condigna but pale discal area DFW is narrower. See also E. spreta.
Emesis condigna
Fairly common 1050-1850 m., probably lower. Usually found inside humid forest; attracted to bait.
Similar species: See E. castigata and E. spreta.
Emesis spreta
Fairly common up to 1050 m. Usually found inside humid forest; attracted to bait. Female probably has white apical spots DFW like female E. castigata.
Similar species: Wings narrower, and grey ground colour D darker and more uniform, than E. castigata and E. condigna.
Emesis mandana mandana
Common up to 1200 m., up to 2400 m. in dry valleys. Found in a variety of habitats; attracted to bait. Variable; males are generally darker red than females.
Similar species: E. diogenia can be similar but is more contrasting - yellowish with obviously greyer areas on D.
Emesis diogenia
Fairly common up to 1050 m. Attracted to bait.
Similar species: E. mandana mandana is more uniformly reddish, though females can approach diogenia; they always lack grey areas on D.
Emesis temesa
Fairly common up to 1150 m. Attracted to mud and bait. I'm not sure which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.
Similar species: In E. brimo progne the dark areas along costa DFW extend across the wing and onto DHW.
Emesis brimo progne
Fairly common up to 1100 m. Attracted to bait.
Similar species: E. temesa has the dark areas FW restricted to the costa.
Emesis heterochroa
Uncommon up to 1350 m. Puddles; attracted to bait.
Similar species: E. adelpha has irregular edges to the orange patch DFW.
Emesis adelpha
Uncommon up to 1100 m. Attracted to bait. I'm not sure which which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.
Similar species: See E. heterochroa.
