Melinaea marsaeus mothone
Fairly common at 1050(higher?) m. Attracted to Eupatorieae flowers.
Similar species: Heliconius numata aristiona is superficially similar but has shorter antennae and lacks red on the 'back of the neck'; it is also unlikely to visit Eupatorieae flowers which is where Melinaea are often seen. Mechanitis messenoides homgreni has much narrower wings.
Melinaea marsaeus clara
Uncommon up to 1050 m. Found inside forest; visits edges to visit Eupatorieae flowers.
Similar species: Heliconius numata lyrcaeus is superficially similar but has shorter antennae and lacks red on the 'back of the neck'; it is also unlikely to visit Eupatorieae flowers which is where Melinaea are often seen. Other similar Melinaea could occur in some lowland areas.
Melinaea satevis lamasi
Fairly common at 1050(higher?) m. Attracted to Eupatorieae flowers.
Similar species: Heliconius have shorter antennae and lacks red on the 'back of the neck'; they are also unlikely to visit Eupatorieae flowers which is where Melinaea are often seen. M. marsaeus clara lacks faint orange markings in VFW apex, and has the orange 'finger' just below dark apical area VFW wider.
