Fairly common up to 550 m. Attracted to bait. Markings are somewhat variable. Other subspecies may occur, especially in N areas.
Similar species: Note red on the 'back of the neck' an boldly contrasting yellow FW band. V marginal spots white, and much smaller than H. euclea callanga. Others?

Uncommon but widespread up to 1100 m.
Similar species: Large yellow V marginal spots and lack of contrasting yellow on FW distinguishes this species from H. cantobrica cantobrica. Others?
