Fountainea cratais

Locally fairly common 1000-1600 m. in dry valleys. Puddles; I once found one at a moth sheet at night.

Similar species: No other Fountainea has such an irregular wing margin; note epsecially the point along lower part of FW margin. Also, no other has orange D.

Fountainea nobilis caudata

Uncommon 1450-2100 m. Attracted to bait; occasionally puddles.

Similar species: Most similar to F. nessus but V much more reddish; D very different. Compare also with Polygrapha tyrianthina (found at higher elevations, with probable overlap) which lacks HW tails among other differences.

Fountainea ryphea

Uncommon up to 1050 m. Puddles; attracted to bait. V pattern variable. I'm not sure which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.

Similar species: V often similar to F. sosippus, but discal line VHW is irregular (straight in sosippus); D also differs.
