Fountainea nessus
Fairly common 700-2150 m. Puddles; attracted to bait.
Similar species: V less reddish (=plainer brown) than others except F. glycerium, and no other has such a well-defined two-tone line near VHW tornus.
Fountainea nobilis caudata
Uncommon 1450-2100 m. Attracted to bait; occasionally puddles.
Similar species: Most similar to F. nessus but V much more reddish; D very different. Compare also with Polygrapha tyrianthina (found at higher elevations, with probable overlap) which lacks HW tails among other differences.
Fountainea ryphea
Uncommon up to 1050 m. Puddles; attracted to bait. V pattern variable. I'm not sure which subspecies occur(s) in Cusco.
Similar species: V often similar to F. sosippus, but discal line VHW is irregular (straight in sosippus); D also differs.
Fountainea sosippus
Fairly common 1350-1800 m. Puddles; attracted to bait.
Similar species: See F. ryphea.
